In 1974, Max Bolton came to Frankfurt as the owner of a London travel agency. For a large number of clients attending the Textile Trade Fair he had booked rooms in several hotels. However, in order to make sure that his clients were able to access the reserved accommodation, he had to actually be there, as the rooms were often overbooked. It was a reoccurring nightmare to find good quality accommodation at a reasonable price.
His solution: to charter a Rhine Cruiser and moor it on the River Main in the heart of Frankfurt city. The client was delighted – good quality accommodation combined with easy access to the Fair – and a specialist business was born.
Today Crossgates manager are still on-site when his guests arrive – not that it is necessary to make sure they all get a room – but personal contact with the clients and high quality service is a top priority for Crossgates.
